September 2019, Muscat: PACA issued a third warning with latest weather charts analysis from the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Systems (NMHEWS), stating that the cyclone ‘Hikka’ is over the west of the Arabian Sea at longitude 59.5°E and latitude 20.0°N, and currently about 80 km away from Masirah Island.
The cyclone continues to move westward towards the coasts of Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta governorates, with the landfall expected to hit between Masirah Island and Ras Al Madraka.
Direct effects over Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta will begin this afternoon, with expected heavy to very heavy rainfall reaching up to 60-100 mm, and gale winds ranging between 55 to 65 knots.
PACA advises the public to take proper precaution, stay away from low lying areas and avoid crossing wadis. They also advise fishermen and seafarers to avoid venturing into the sea, and follow latest updates from NMHEWS.
