September 2019, Muscat, (ONA): Oman Cricket Club celebrated their 40th anniversary under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Mardouf Al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, and in the presence of H.H. Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, and the delegation of the International Cricket Council.
The celebration ceremony included a number of segments, where Mr. Pankaj Khimji, member of the Board of Directors of Oman Cricket Club, gave a speech in which he emphasized the improvement of cricket play in the Sultanate of Oman, having it reach a global level.
He stated that, “The Sultanate of Oman ranks 15th in the world of cricket play among the 104 member countries of the International Cricket Council; while this position is considered as the highest sports rank achieved by the Sultanate among various sports activities.”
“The celebration of the 40th anniversary of Oman Cricket Club has a lot of lofty meanings for fans and players of this sport, while this ceremony gives the club’s board of directors a push towards exerting more effort to strengthen and spread cricket play among Omani youth, school students, clubs members and sports teams in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman,” he added.
A representative of the International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation addressed the attendances of the ceremony, where he expressed his and his colleagues pleasure by their the participation in the celebrations of Oman Cricket Club.
The audience watched a video presentation on the march of the sport in the Sultanate, and the development achieved by Oman national teams of cricket in various championships during the past.
H.E. Sheikh Al Mardouf Al Saadi awarded the winning teams in the various tournaments that were organized by the Oman Cricket Club during the last sports season.
H.H. Al Said honored the members of the International Cricket Council and a number of sports leaders who had a prominent role in the development of cricket play since its inception.
