Hijri New Year to fall on September 1

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Department of Astronomical Affairs has announced that the first day of the Hijri New Year, 1441AH, will fall on Sunday, September 1 after the sighting of the new moon was sighted on Saturday, August 31.

The new moon marks the beginning of the month of Muharram and has been announced as a public holiday for both the government and private sectors. Regular working hours will resume the following day on Monday, September 2.
