The Sultanate’s local population has increased by around 978,000 Omani citizens born between mid-2012 and mid-2018 according to recent figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

With this, the country’s overall total population (both Omanis and expats) has touched 4.6 million, recording a rise of a whopping 23.3 per cent over the past six years.

Children and youth below the age of 18 make up two-thirds of the Omani population (64 per cent), while children below the age of five make up around 5 per cent of the population.

According to the NCSI figures, the local population of the Sultanate is increasing every hour by 8 new Omani births.

While Omani males and females share 50 per cent of the local population, the proportion of males in the total population of the Sultanate was about 65 per cent compared to 35 per cent of females when counting expatriate residents.
