A sting operation by the Barka Municipality resulted in the confiscation of at least two tons of starch that was made from livestock feed in a Barka farm.
The story broke waves after an Oman TV report on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
Made by unlicensed expatriate labourers – starch – the main ingredient of Omani halwa was mixed in rusty tubs and in an unhygienic environment.
As per the reports, the food was also sold to Omani halwa factories with wrong expiry dates.
The same labourers were also working in another location to make livestock feed, said Saleh Al Harthi, manager of the Barka Municipality, before adding that the violators and owner of the farm will be prosecuted as per the law.
