Painting of Omani man auctioned for $1.38 million USD

A painting of an Omani man was sold this week for $1.38 million USD at an auction in Cape Town, South Africa.



The rare painting dates back to 1939 and was painted in Zanzibar by South African artist, the late Irma Stern, during the reign of Sultan Khalifa bin Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, according to the Sultanate’s embassy in South Africa.

Titled ‘An Arab Man’, the artwork displays a man wearing the Saidi Mussar and the traditional Omani dress.
