Oman’s Israa al Lawati has been crowned with the title of ‘Miss Arab’ at the Miss Arab 2019 beauty pageant held in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday, April 21.
There were a total of four other participants from Oman in the competition which highlights the beauty of eastern and Arab culture. Al Lawati said she entered a closed camp as part of the pageant where she was tested for her knowledge, attitude, and beauty.
Speaking to Y’s sister radio station Al Wisal, al Lawati says: “Eighty per cent of people support and accept me, while 20 per cent of our society still doesn’t accept this [the pageant], but they will as soon as they understand my message.”
Al Lawati aims to use the platform her title affords her to raise awareness on and give voice to children with autism, highlighting the condition
