A publishing house has withdrawn a children’s book from the Muscat International Book Fair after it was found to contain an incorrect map of Oman.
The book had ‘Bahrain’ written on a map of the Sultanate of Oman, and left Qatar’s map nameless.
An official at Al Shurooq Publishing House has apologised on Twitter to the Omani authorities and the book fair management, calling the mistake “unintended”.
“We apologize to the management of the Muscat International Book Fair and to the Ministry of (Heritage and) Culture in Oman for the unintended typographical error in the map in the book ‘Emirates’ issued in the series ‘Tutu Bent Batuta’ for children. We confirm that we have taken the necessary procedures to withdraw the book from the market,” the official said in a Tweet.
Social media users in Oman expressed anger over the mistake after Twitter user Adnan Al Nasri spotted it and shared it on his page.
