This Omani hypermarket takes the ‘dis’ out of ‘disability’

Government-retiree Yahya al Nabhani is empowering people with speech and hearing challenges at his Hypermarket in Jufnain.

His project was praised by social media users in Oman with people calling businessmen to start more charitable initiatives.

What used to be a small grocery store in 2004 has expanded to a full-blown ‘Al Thiqah Hypermarket in 2015.

“After I received support from Al Raffd fund to expand my business, I decided to give back to society by employing people with special needs,” he said, adding that all cashiers are Omanis with hearing and speech impairments person.

Setting an example, the shop now receives differently-abled trainees from colleges to help them build confidence and accounting skills.
