Following its ban on barbecuing and lighting cooking fires in public parks and beaches, Muscat Municipality posted on Twitter pictures of its employees fining violators.
“Due to failing to adhere to regulations maintaining public utilities, the Urban Inspection Department of Muscat Municipality in Bousher seizes and fines some of the beach- and park- goers in the wilayah,” the municipality Tweeted on Saturday.
The municipality recently issued a ban on barbecuing and lighting cooking fires in public parks and beaches and, in areas of vegetation and greenery in Muscat.
According to the law, violators will be slapped with a fine of RO100.
However, campers needn’t worry as the municipal decision doesn’t include public spaces that are authorised by the municipality for barbecuing – such as wadis, deserts, etc.
In April 2017, the municipality had also imposed heavy fines for littering, food poisoning, and various other offences in these areas, though the offense is pegged with a fine of RO1,000.
