Social media users in Oman called for a total ban on bullfighting after a bull perished during a fight on Friday.
A video of the incident was widely circulated on Twitter and reported later by Oman TV.
Bullfighting is a traditional Omani spectacle, passed down through the generations, taking place almost every other Friday in various places around the country.
Usually, these battles come to an end when one of the heavyweights backs down and flees the fight.
But after the death of a bull last Friday, people have called on authorities to interfere and stop what they deem as an “inhumane sport”.
The law in Oman criminalises violence against animals with a maximum jail term of one month and a fine of RO500.
