Renowned British athlete Paula Radcliffe will be the brand ambassador of Al Mouj Muscat Marathon scheduled to be held in January next year.
Radcliffe is a former world champion in the marathon, half marathon and cross country. Through the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon, Radcliffe aims to encourage greater participation by runners from both Oman and GCC. Al Mouj Marathon has seen a record number of runners, with more than 6,000 taking part this year. Radcliffe still holds the Women’s World Record time of 2:15:25 set in 2003.
In a statement issued by Al Mouj Muscat on behalf of Radcliffe, the multiple marathon champion said: “I am extremely happy to be the brand ambassador of Al Mouj Marathon. I hope I can inspire others, particularly women, to take on the challenge. The Al Mouj Marathon is a great opportunity for people to train, get healthier and take part in this event.” Radcliffe, who ended her competitive running career at the 2015 London Marathon, will flag-off the start of the Al Mouj Marathon on January 18, 2019.
“We are delighted to have Radcliffe on board with us for the eighth edition of Al Mouj Marathon. She is a well-respected sports personality and her presence will motivate those taking part in the races,” said Salma Al Hashmi, Chief Marketing Officer of event organiser Oman Sail. The two-day event which will be held at Al Mouj in Seeb, will also have half-marathon and relay categories, a 5K charity run and a kids race.
