Road accidents rates are significantly dropping so far compared to last year, according to the data from the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
There is a 37.86 per cent drop in accident rates in the first half of this year compared to the same period of 2017. According to the data, there were 1,236 accidents reported from January to June 2018, compared to 1,989 accidents in the same period last year.
“Wrong overtaking is the number one cause of road accidents in Oman. Around 131 such cases were reported last year,” said an official at Royal Oman Police. As per the NCSI data, there were a total of 313 deaths in the first six months of 2018. “Accidents mostly happens at night and people have to be careful while driving. In June 61 per cent of accidents took place at night,” the official added.
