There’s nothing more irritable than waiting for a video to buffer or a web page to load – trust us, we know the pain. And it seems that Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has heard our cries, because, we will soon have the Fifth-Generation (5G) international mobile data telecommunications networks in Oman.

The TRA has established a national level team to proceed with this strategy.

When implemented, this technology will up internet speeds three-fold. So, users in Oman could see speeds as high as 3.7Gbps.

Currently, operators in the Sultanate offer speeds as high as 100Mbps – but on fixed lines. Fourth-Generation (4G) technology currently provides users speeds between 20 and 40Mbps.

In its annual report, the government body stated: “The 5G national team includes members from TRA and mobile network operators in the Sultanate, who aim to develop a 5G strategy that will facilitate the 5G-network deployment in Oman and will address the likely challenges that surface during implementation.”
