For most, it would be a dream to get behind the wheel of a RO200,000 exotic Italian supercar, and gun it through the streets of Dubai. But one British expat decided to make it happen when he rented out a Lamborghini Huracan. The results from his day with the car are, undoubtedly, astonishing.

The 25-year-old driver broke the speed limit 33 times in the four hours that he was out with the car. His fines amounted to a whooping AED170,000 (RO17,816).

Needless to say, the Saeed Ali Rent a Car dealership that loaned him the car wasn’t very pleased — and the driver is still in possession of the yellow Lamborghini.

Now, the owners of the dealership are locked in a stand-off with the Briton after the Dubai Police records showed him driving between 126kph and 230kph, triggering every radar on his way. From the 33 fines that he raked up, 32 of the offenses were on the Sheikh Zayed Road.

The dealership owners told local Emirati media that they received the notifications of offences between 2:31am and 6:26am on July 31, the day after he hired it.

Faris Iqbal, 26, a partner in the dealership, told The National that the tourist paid AED6,000 for two days’ to hire the car, leaving his passport as a guarantee.

While it is not uncommon for dealerships to keep money as collateral, the UAE law prohibits companies from withholding passports.
