International football governing body FIFA has confirmed that the next edition of the World Cup in Qatar will be held for the first time during the winters.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the 2022 World Cup will be played from November 21 to December 18. “Leagues around the world have been informed already, and of course they will have to adapt,” he said. The decision to move the tournament to winters is due to the extreme heat in Qatar.
Infantino also said that the tournament could feature more than 32 teams, but a decision has not been made.
