Dust blankets parts of Oman

Commuters are advised to drive safe as a large of amount of dust suspended in the air has been causing reduced visibility in parts of Oman.

The phenomenon is currently affecting many governorates in the Sultanate, but will soon clear up later today [Sunday, July 29], according to Oman’s weather department’s report.

In its statement to the media, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation said: “The satellite picture shows the presence of dust with a continued low horizontal visibility between 1,000 metres to 5,000 metres in Al Wusta, Dhofar, Al Dahirah, parts of the Al Dakhiliah and Al Sharqiyah, and the spread of earth plankton over the rest of the states,”

It added: “The dust is expected to recede gradually as the southeast winds blow through the evening and tomorrow.”
