“We will have iftar in Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine”, is the message at the heart of Zain’s Ramadan advert
Kuwaiti telecommunication company Zain sends a powerful message to the world in a special Ramadan video that has since gone viral, with nearly 3.5 million hits (to date) on YouTube.
The musical clip shows an Arab child inside the Oval Office, where he promises U.S. President Donald Trump that Muslims will break their fast this Ramadan in Jerusalem.
The advert’s release comes two days after the U.S. moved its embassy to Jerusalem – a decision that ignited protests across the Gaza Strip and resulted in the death of more than 50 Palestinians.
And the message didn’t stop there. The clip further shed light on current issues and injustices facing the Muslim world, including the Syrian refugee crisis, and the Rohingya ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.
In the 3-minute video featured look-alikes of Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Making viral rounds on social media, on the first day of its release the advert crossed half a million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours, gaining 26,000 likes – a figure which has now risen to 140K.
On its Twitter handle, Zain posted “Tell the children, the right is to remain and injustice will demise,” it was re-Tweeted over a thousand times.
This is not the first time Zain has taken a political stance — last year, the company went vocal against fundamentalism in the region, sending a bold statement was sent through a commercial that addressed the aftermath of the 2015 terrorist bombing of a Kuwait mosque.
