Milky magic

Cleopatra took her bath in milk, but you don’t need that — just whip it up with seasonal fruit to get the looks, brains and brawn, says Gayathri Das.



 A glass of milk is a powerhouse of health. You get a rich supply of protein, minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates as well as fat that tone up your muscles and beef up your bones.

Milk is one of the widely used foods for centuries and the benefits it provides are incredible. Daily intakes help boost your immune system and keep the skin smoother.

Among the factors that make it one of the most convenient foods are its easy, year-round availability and simple ways for consumption. From a plain glass of warm milk to tasty milk shakes along with fruit, it’s consumed in a variety of ways.

Healthy bones and teeth
Milk is a major source of calcium which is essential for strong bones. Children need this in their growing stage and adults need it to keep their bones strong and to avoid osteoporosis. Milk is essential for strong teeth and it helps prevent tooth decay and cavities.

Muscles
Milk is a good source of protein. It helps to rebuild muscles. A glass of milk after workouts helps fight soreness.

Weight loss
Low-fat milk helps you lose weight by making you feel full for a long time.

Healthy body
Milk reduces the risk of strokes. It can serve as an antacid and is rich in vitamin A and B which can help in good eyesight.

Glowing skin
Milk has several nutrients that help skin to look its best. It contains lactic acid which can serve as an exfoliant and enzymes to help smooth the skin. The amino acids keep the skin moisturised.

Chikku milkshake
Ingredients
1 cup chikku
3 tbsp honey
1 cup milk

Method
Blend the three ingredients till no lumps are found. Pour it into a serving glass and garnish with chopped dry nuts. Serve it with or without ice.

 Apple milkshake
Ingredients
1 cup apple
1/3 cup dates
A pinch of cardamom powder
1 cup milk

Method
Blend the ingredients well and serve. You can garnish it with chopped dates and dry nuts. Serve it with or without ice.

Mango milkshake
Ingredients
1 cup mango
3 tbsp sugar
A pinch of cardamom powder
1 cup milk

Method
Blend the ingredients into a creamy consistency. Garnish it with chopped mangoes and dry nuts. Serve it with or without ice.

Banana milkshake
Ingredients
1 cup banana
10-15 cashew nuts
3 tbsp honey
1 cup milk

Method
Blend the ingredients well. Garnish the shake with a slice of banana and cashew nuts. Serve it with or without ice.
