Oman will witness the growth of more motels from this year, as the Sultanate will focus on domestic tourism in 2018 under a new “National Tourism Strategy”, according to Peter Walichnowski, CEO of Omran.

Walichnowski said the government will focus on cheaper accommodation options like motels, and to promote destinations in forts and castles.

During a discussion panel at the Oman Economic Forum 2018, he announced that Omran will sign “in a couple of weeks” with a 3-star hotel to open in Madinat Al Irfan.

On the second day of the forum, Walichnowski said that  Oman will spend an estimated $50 billion on tourism by 2040, pointing out that 80% of the investment will be carried out by the private sector.
