The first trial flight at the new Muscat International Airport will take place on December 23, said Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, on Wednesday.
According to the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC), the date coincides with December 23, 1973 when the existing Muscat airport was inaugurated under the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Dr Futaisi said that feedback from the trial will help the government to decide on the launch date of operations at the new airport.
“The new Muscat airport will start its operations soon. The construction is almost over,” H E Dr Futaisi said while talking to media at the 11th edition of the 2017 Airports Council International’s Airport Exchange Forum at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).
He said that the first trial flight will have passengers. “We would like to ensure that everything is in place before actual operations begin.” he added.
