For the first time Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will bring a popular music megastar to Muscat – Sir Cliff Richard, the world-renowned British singer and musician.
Signing Sir Richard is a tremendous coup for ROHM. His performance will be a phenomenal once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone who comes to the concert, stated a press release.
Knighted for his remarkable contribution to popular music, Sir Richard has sold more than 250mn records worldwide, with many gold and platinum hits. Amazingly, in 2013 he released his 100th album, which was soon certified gold – The Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll Songbook.
In the UK, sales of his singles have gone past 21mn, making Sir Richard the third-top-selling artist in the UK Singles Chart history, surpassed only by The Beatles and Elvis Presley.
And Sir Richard has gone beyond ordinary pop star status with more than 100 performances at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall.
During the course of more than five decades, Sir Richard has gone from strength to strength, his music changing and flowing with the times. In the 1950s, Sir Richard was positioned as a rebellious Rock and Roll singer in the style of Little Richard and Elvis Presley. With his talented back-up group, The Shadows, Sir Richard dominated the British popular music scene in the pre-Beatles period of the late 1950s to early 1960s. His 1958 hit single, Move It, is often described as Britain’s first authentic Rock and Roll song. John Lennon declared that “before Cliff and The Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music”.
