The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested seven people of African nationalities, including a woman with RO 17,000 of counterfeit notes.
According to sources at ROP, the counterfeit notes were of RO 50.
“A team from Ruwi and Azaiba police stations in Muscat and the department of criminal investigation also seized jewellery and luxury watches from the suspects,” a statement from ROP said.
The main defendant was arrested along with a woman and one of the accused while exchanging the currency in an exchange in Ruwi, to be transferred out of the Sultanate.
Tools, devices and seals used for counterfeiting currencies and other documents were also seized from the accused.
The rest of the defendants were arrested in Azaiba and the case has been referred for legal procedures.
