The Royal Oman Police (ROP) rescue squad has been kept busy over the Eid Al Fitr break, rescuing three three people stranded on Jebel Shams and an injured man in Qantab.
According to a ROP source, the men were rescued on Wednesday afternoon in the Ghul Valley, which is renowned globally as “Oman’s Grand Canyon”.
“The missing persons were on a tourist trip to the mountain when they lost their way because of the vast area of the mountain and the ramparts of the roads leading to the villages,” the ROP said on its Instagram account.
“Immediately after, the operation centre received a message from a citizen who saw them. [We] moved the police plane with the medical staff where the plane was able to rescue them and to provide them with the necessary assistance and care by the Ambulance Unit and the helping police.”
The ROP added that earlier on the same day, it rescued a citizen injured on a mountain in Qantab and was transferred to hospital in Khawla. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
Meanwhile, a man has been arrested over a hit-and-run accident in Mabela, in which a pedestrian was killed on the first night of Eid Al Fitr.
