Muscat is all set to be an international venue for marathons, alongside the big guns from Dubai, Boston and London, with the sixth edition of the Muscat Marathon.
The marathon is expected to take place on January 27 and Muscat Road Runners, the organiser of the marathon, has joined hands with Oman Sail and Al Mouj Muscat to scale up the event to a global level.
This year’s marathon will feature three events: the marathon, half-marathon and a 10km run.
The marathon route, which will be announced soon, will showcase some of the most striking locations around the capital. More than 1,200 runners are expected to participate in the Muscat Marathon in January and applications are available at marathon.muscatroadrunners.com.
Roughly 600 runners, including 54 international participants, took part in this year’s Muscat Marathon.
“Sponsoring the Muscat Marathon reflects our trust in the significance of supporting sports tourism as a key contributor to boost the tourism sector in the Sultanate,” said Nasser bin Masoud al Sheibani, the acting chief executive of Al Mouj Muscat.
Expressing his gratitude towards the new partners, Ahmed al Malki, the chairman of the Muscat Road Runners, said: “We are very excited to team up with Oman Sail and Al Mouj Muscat because we realise that there is so much potential with the Muscat Marathon and feel they are ideal partners to develop the race.”
