Not everything is black and white. In fact, colour can be transformative. It has the power to evoke emotion, alter your mood and stimulate one-of-a kind creativity. The shades and hues that capture a person’s imagination are as varied as people themselves. What colours capture you? Is it a colour you see or wear? Or is it a colour you have yet to experience?
To help you find the colours that inspire and transform you, US fashion designer Tracy Reese, known for her colourful style and clothing, says it is important to find your inspiration to determine your best hues.
“Some days I’m all about colour,” she says. “If you’re feeling bold, reflect that in the colours you wear with bursts of red, yellow or bright green and save those muted greys, blacks and navy blues for when you feel low-key.”
Being bold may not always suit your mood or style, and if you are more reserved you can still make a colour statement with pastel shades such as soft greens, pinks and baby blues.
Colour is about more than just the shade you see, it is also about your reaction to it. “I think working with colours fuels the mind and spirit,” says Reese. “Colour can convey mood and emotion, time and place. Colour connects you to memories and propels you forward. There is so much rich colour around, it’s important to stop, take notice and use it to inspire.”
