Comfort dressing has been given a cool twist this season, says Penny Fray

Normcore? Yawn. It’s soooo last season, darlings. It’s now all about banal plus. Don’t worry; it’s still about embracing ordinary fashion, just with some added oomph.

Think blinged-up jeans, silky sweatshirts and eye-catching trainers. Basically, it’s about curating your basic slumming kit with extra zing. After all, off-duty dressing has become more office appropriate of late.

Dressed-up denim dominated the catwalks thanks to 70s styling, while the boiler suit is destined to become the summer’s hottest shape. Add an instant update to simple outfits with a pair of statement earrings. Chunky necklaces are officially over.

Relaxing at home? I must admit I love lounging and can’t do it properly when trussed up in restrictive tailoring.

So indulge in a little “me time” by slipping into separates in the softest jersey, or my favourite, a cashmere onesie from The White Company. In my view, you can always get away with lowbrow pieces when they scream luxe.
