From Solange Knowles’ wedding-worthy look to Taylor Swift’s adorable romper version, the jumpsuit is back for spring, says Penny Fray
I know they’ve been around a while, but our love affair with the jumpsuit started when Amal Alamuddin, otherwise know as Mrs George Clooney, wore hers in Venice.
Accessorised with an oversized hat, her monochrome outfit oozed honeymoon chic, persuading the rest of us that the one piece needn’t look like an enlarged romper.
Designers met the sudden demand for lazy, one stop dressing with an array of styles – from utilitarian (Jason Wu) and patterned (Yigal Azrouël) to sensual (Giulietta) and minimalist (Tia Cibani). The trend has even evolved to incorporate stylish new culottes. For the ultimate 2015 update, think hybrid styles that boast added volume and shortened hems.
Effortless in its simplicity and edgier than the maxi, the jumpsuit has undoubtedly become the fashion-forward woman’s wardrobe essential. Opt for daytime minimalism with a silk boiler or summer playsuit, or disregard evening wear convention altogether with a tailored piece. Add strappy sandals and a structured blazer to smarten the look or witty touches like Anya Hindmarch’s slogan clutch for a more casual affair.
